Workspace Specific WHMIS is a more focused level of WHMIS training specific for your Restaurant or your Hospitality business. It is intended for someone who already has the basic awareness level of WHMIS knowledge. Employees typically have an area, department or role in an organization which we refer to as a "Workspace". In that Workspace there are typically one or more materials which people come into contact with and may be required to handle, use, or store.
Someone working in the dishwashing area may have several cleaning products used to ensure that the dishes are properly washed to required standards. The worker needs to know the risks and hazards of each of these materials.
Workspace Specific WHMIS is a custom training solution for your business. We work with you to obtain a list of products for training. You provide us with the set of MSDS for the products which we set up as Modules in the system. The employee can then view the MSDS and is given several test questions on their ability to read and understand that MSDS. This is not a memorization test on individual pieces of data. It is intended to familiarize them with how to read an MSDS. Often there are specific risks in storage of a product, or in the "PPE" (Personal Protective Equipment) requirements. In the event of a spill or incident people need to be able to quickly access an MSDS, allowing them to find the information that they need to safely deal with that incident.
